Pedal Line Friday – 6/21 – Joe Bell

Today’s pedal line is from Joe Bell. My Name is Joe, I play in a alternative rock band out of Baltimore called The Life Review.  I’ve comprised my pedal board to utilize the main factors to pretty much make any sound you want without needing an expensive list of boutique pedals and expression pedals everywhere.  I bought a pedal board from www.rondomusic.com for about 30 bucks.  I’ve been using a daisy chain to power all of my pedals with little or no noise.  That all runs into a Peavey JSX head with a Mesa Rectifier 2×12.  My axe is an Ibanez RG471.

Signal Chain from the guitar into the first pedal:

Korg Pitch Black Tuner:  Great tuner pedal for the price, accurate, fast reading.  Takes a bit to break in for some reason but I’m not complaining.

Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer:  I dig this pedal alot.  A compressor is definitely a must have,  It brings my sound together and mix with the gibraltar bridge on my Ibanez, I have nearly endless sustain.

MXR Distortion Plus:  I use this for leads mostly.  I run a low gain amp setting so this is great if I ever need more saturation.

Boss NS-2 Noise Suppresor:  Another must have if you’re running a decent amount of gain.  Gets rid of all the hiss and hum’s.  and it’s very flexible.

Golden Path Effects Loop:  You can get these guys off of ebay for about $40.  I like to keep my volume and tone based effects seperate from my modulation effects for a cleaner signal.  This pedal also allows me to turn on and off multiple effects are the same time.

Looped Effects:

Boss PS-6 Harmonist:  This pedal is really sick.  Every option you can think of in pitch shifting.  Harmonize leads in any key, major or minor.  There’s even two different 3-part harmony settings.  Detune and the ever awesome S-Bend which you can use to dive bomb or sky rocket between 4 octaves.  It’s definitely the best pitch-shifting pedal for its price.

Digitech Synth Wah:  I really don’t use this pedal too often.  but mixed with my other pedals, you can get some really crazy sounds out of it.  I’m a knob tweaker so having the ability to throw some synth sounds over my guitar is alot of fun!

Line-6 DL-4 Delay:  This is my rock.  I use delay more than anything else.  I’m a big circa survive fan and I really like that big spacey, ambient sound you can get from a good delay and this is the best one I’ve used so far.  Not to mention, it’s got several different types of delay with a huge about of parameter adjustment.

These three pedals run out from the golden path and back into it which then goes to my amp.
