A little while back I posted about the JHS Pedals SuperBolt pedal. This pedal is a great sounding pedal modeled after the old Valco Supro amps. When I think of those amps, I definitely get the stinky dirt tones that I love. Old school! But in a different vibe than traditional ‘vintage’ amps. There is a special character found in the break up that is unique to those amps. JHS did a great job capturing that grit in the SuperBolt!
Josh of JHS Pedals recently put out a great video on the JHS SuperBolt where he plays the SuperBolt through a variety of amps. I was very curious about this and figured you guys would dig this video as well.
Here is a break down of the amps and types of amp settings used. He also played with different guitars as well throughout the video:
Clean Boost – Bassman 6L6
Medium Gain – Bassman 6L6
Driving Riff – Bassman 6L6
Slight Break up – Bassman 6L6
Classic Rhythm – Bassman 6L6
Clean Boost – Vox AC30 EL84
12 Bar Slapback – Vox AC30 EL84
Slight Breakup – Vox AC30 EL84
Vintage Rhythm – Vox AC30 EL84
Modern Riff – Sovtek Midget 5881

So this is suppose to be comparable to a Supro (Supreme and Thunderbolt). How are we suppose to compare this? Well, the video even takes it to that level. Josh plays both of those amps as reference points:
Supro Supreme High Gain
Supro Supreme Low Gain
Supro Thunderbolt High Gain
Supro Thunderbolt Low Gain
That’s the way to do it!!
If you’re liking the tone of the JHS Pedals SuperBolt – they are available for $199 at Amazon!
