Lots been happening at Summer NAMM this year, but something caught my attention today. It’s Z-Vex’s new Basstortion. I think bass players are going to go nuts on this. Bass and distortion has always been a hard combo to dial in depending on what you want to get out of. Too much compression and your low end drops out. Too much low end and your signal is lost. It’s about finding the proper pocket where you have plenty of bottom, but has the growl.
Z-Vex went a good direction in my opinion with the Basstortion. They wanted to get a ‘SVT cranked sound’ and to me, that’s where it’s at. Not so much fuzz and buzz but natural growl. Their Basstortion is a simple unit with Volume, Tone and Drive with a brightness switch where you can go bright or dark depending on what you want. This is something definitely worth checking out.
