I’ve been wanting to talk about the P-LINK pickup system for a bit. I saw this a few weeks ago and was totally excited and interested.
As a guitarist, everything is about tone. Not just quality tone, but a variety of tone. Typically this is achieved by buying different styles of guitars. Single coil pickups sound different than Humbuckers and those sound different than P90s. Switching out pickups is easy (to a point) but more of a pain, and it’s a change that you need to be prepared to go all the way with. Your guitars are unique and have their individual feel and sound, but imagine if you can swap out the humbuckers on your Les Paul and some P90s very quickly? Or maybe put in a single coil but still have the neck feel by using the same guitar? That’s awesome.
The P-LINK System
The P-LINK system is developed in Australia and was designed to solve this problem. Once the system is installed in your guitar, you can be swapping out pick ups in seconds. Setting up the system fits into standard humbucker mounting rings. So if you have a single coil set up and want to go in this direction, you would need to do some body routing.

Right now, they have a Kickstarter Campaign happening – so if you want to contribute and get early bird pricing, I would back the project!
Could you use something like the P-LINK system? Let me know what you think by commenting below! I can totally see luthiers and pickup builders going nuts with something like this for testing!

OMG!! I need this. I’m going through different pick-ups in my SG and it would be nice to just flip through a bunch. I seriously was thinking I needed a new SG so I can have two SGs with different pick-ups. I would much prefer this method and just keep playing my #1.

Excellent post! Talked about this idea with my tech two years ago. Their solution looks pretty great. Only other idea I’d seen was tied to a particular guitar with a rather extreme routing of the body to facilitate the swapping system. I’m definitely intrigued.
