I’ve been a fan of Guitar Moves with Matt Sweeney for a long time. I think the first one I saw was with St. Vincent or QOTSA.. can’t remember. What I do remember, when reading the show title “Guitar Moves” I went “ugh” thinking it was going to be video on sweep picking and whammy bar techniques – nothing wrong with that, but it’s just not my thing. But after watching the first episode I was super into what the show was about. Guitar Moves isn’t about “tricks” but talking with the artist about their roots or what got them to their particular path. There might be a guitar move in there, but maybe not. Matt does a great job of being a “fan” and appreciating the opportunity to get a glimpse of how that artist’s brain works.
It has been a little while since I watched an episode, so I checked one out I hadn’t seen. This time it was with Keith Richards. I have to admit, I’m not the biggest Rolling Stones or Richards fan.. but I definitely acknowledge his and their impact on the music world. I would be crapping bricks if I had to interview him, so I was excited to see this episode.
I was really excited to see them talk about the 5 string set up. I’ve known about his 5 string Travis Beans in the past, but never understand how he set it up, so that shed some light – I might have to try that.
