Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Mitch Kelly. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.
My main instrument is saxophone but I figured out a long time ago that being able to double (or triple) on different instruments will get you more gigs! I do a lot of sideman gigs and have to be able to cover everything from Homer & Jethro to Nirvana. Country, rock, jazz, you name it and I have been asked to play it. So many players limit themselves to one type of music but I’ve always liked everything so I became a musical chameleon. I have a band (The Kellys) but we’re not getting to play much lately because the other members (my daughters) are 2 hours away finishing their college degrees.
Here’s my pedalboard – a Snark tuner into an EHX LPB1 that I turn on and leave on. Next are the overdrives, an EHX Soul Food for smooth crunch into an Ibanez TS Mini for more crunch which runs into a Modtone Mini Fuzzer for super nasty crunch. Next is a Biyang phaser (same as the Akai but about half the price) then a TC Electronics mini Flashback delay. Last in the chain is an EHX Epitome pedal when I run stereo. I put the Mini Flashback last when running mono. I can coax a lot of different sounds from this rig which is what I have to have!
