Yesterday, I went into some detail about the Johnny Marr experience and the gear he was using in a recent show. You can read the full scoop here – “Pedalboard Break Down – Johnny Marr “. Today I thought I would talk about Iwan Gronow who was laying down the awesome low end for the show. Sometimes it gets dark outside of the Marr spotlight, and wanted to be sure to include Iwan. I thought he was awesome!
Before signing on with Johnny Marr (which I would imagine was quite the experience) he was in the British indie band – Haven. He’s currently in the Mutineers as well as performing with Marr.
Those of you who aren’t familiar with Johnny Marr and his band, I thought I would do a blend for you. Here is an old Smiths song How Soon Is Now played by his new band with Iwan on bass. This is a great KCRW Apogee Session!
Iwan Gronow needs a variety of tones to perform the new stuff along with some of the older Smith tunes. Board ranges from overdrives to delays.. simple, yet highly effective.
Here is the break down of Iwan Gronow’s pedalboard:
Radial Tonebone Dragster
Boss TU-3 Tuner
Electro-Harmonix Bass Micro Synth
Radial JS-3 Mic Splitter
Boss VE-20 Vocal Performer
Boss GEB-7 Equalizer
Boss DD-3 Delay
Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer
Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive
There is a small unidentified unit to the right side of the TU-3. I’m not sure if it’s a buffer. If anyone can shed some light. Sorry the photo wasn’t taken at a better angle, but it was the best we could do. ITEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED – Radial Tonebone Dragster – Thanks Joel!
