Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Tym Johnson. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.
Pedal Line Friday – 3/30 – Tym Johnson
When I recently got a Marshall DSL40, I decided that I needed a separate pedalboard specifically for this amp, because I had been running pedalboards into clean amps for years. My logic was to run the bottom half of the board into the front of the DSL40 and the top half of the board through the effects loop.
The pedalboard is the Double Decker XL from Kentucky Hot Brown Pedalboards (Kenny rocks!)
Section 1 – into the front of the amp
TC Electronic Polytune Mini – accurate and small
Whirlwind Orange Box – modern version of a Phase90 with true bypass that’s much quieter than the reissue
Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini – classic sound (mid hump boost) in a small package
One Control Baltic Blue Fuzz – tried this out on a Tourbox through TGP and loved the thick creamy sound and quiet operation.
Timmy – Classic boost that hits the amp just right
Section 2 -in the effects loop of the DSL40
Boss Waza Craft Chorus – I’ve tried others and can’t match my vintage CE-2, so I went with the Waza Craft to integrate theCE-1 as well
A/DA PBF Flanger – true to the original in a pedalboard friendly size — as they say, if you have an A/DA Flanger, who needs recreational drugs?!
Catalinbread Belle Epoch – awesome Echoplexmodel
Catalinbread Echorec – awesome Echorec model
Catalinbread Montavillian – very versatile delay that blends in with the mix
You might think I’m crazy for having three different Catalinbread delays on my board, but they are each so different, so unique, that I couldn’t bear to leave one off the board.
