Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Peter Rizzo. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.
Pedal Line Friday – 7/21 – Peter Rizzo
A few details about my pedal board !
I wanted a pedal board with no midi controllers and no loopers that reflected a collection of great sounds from my favours players, so I had Mikey Woodward from Goodwood Audio www.goodwoodaudio.com <http://www.goodwoodaudio.com> in Sydney take my favourite mostly analogue pedals (barring some conveniences) and wire them up … So here it is a classic old school board, with most of the pedals new builders are trying to clone, emulate or improve on, the sounds of rock and roll.
The basic signal flow is
Guitar -> Passive Input Goodwood Audio Interfacer -> Passive Send to Vox King Wah ’70’s -> Demeter Compulator compressor -> Tychobrahe Octavia octave fuzz -> Fulltone ’69 Fuzz germanium fuzz -> Good Wood Audio Interfacer Buffered Input -> Good Wood Audio Interface Buffered Send -> Ibanez ’70’s TS808 overdrive pedal -> ProCo ’70’s White Faces Rat distortion/fuzz pedal -> Electro Harmonix EH1003 Big Muff silicon fuzz pedal -> Goodrich Volume
pedal -> Klon Centaur boost pedal -> MXR Block ’70’s Phase 90 phaser -> Electro Harmonix Deluxe Mistress flanger -> Electro Harmonix Deluxe memory Man analogue delay -> Demeter Tremulator tremolo pedal -> TC Electronics IB Modified Nova
– R (Mono) out to Goodwood Audio Interfacer AMP A (usually and old AC30 or a Plexi or a Fender tweed Deluxe)
– L out to Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus pedal then Goodwood Audio Interfacer AMP B (a cleaner amp like a Roland Jc120 or even a Twin)
Goodwood Audio Interfacer Tuner Send > TC Electronic Poly Tune
A few notes on each pedal
1. Goodwood Audio Interfacer – Mikey’s convenience pedal allowing easy signal routing and pedal board connection that can be run in either stereo or mono, and with a tuner mute switch
2. Vox King Wah ’70’s – wah pedal – the name says it will the SRV wah pedal of choice
3. Demeter Compulator – compressor – this was a toss-up for me between the MXR Dynacomp script and this pedal which has been a Gilmour favourite
4. Tychobrahe Octavia – octave fuzz – another easy choice for late 60’s early 70’s Jimmi, SRV anyone else
5. Fulltone ’69 Fuzz – germanium fuzz – the best pedal Mike Fuller has made bar none, the germanium fuzz, an 80’s version of the classic Dallas Arbiter fuzz face, think Jimmy, Gilmour but more manageable on a pedal board
6. Ibanez ’70’s TS808 – overdrive pedal – more SRV, the must have OD on any board, its mids just cuts through the crash cymbal perfectly
7. ProCo ’70’s White Faces Rat – distortion/fuzz pedal – this was a toss-up also between this pedal made famous by Blurs Graham Coxon, Colplays Johnny Buckland and Jeff Beck and my BK Butler Tube Driver – Rat wins!
8. Electro Harmonix EH1003 NYC ’70s Big Muff – silicon distortion/sustainer/fuzz pedal – my classic Muff, think Gilmour, Edge, Corrigan
9. Goodrich Volume pedal – slide players volume pedal – it stays in the position you leave it, I like to use it to feed the Klon, balance the OD’s to the guitar and then stack the Klon
10. Klon Centaur ’90s – OD/boost pedal – what to say about the AMP De JOUR / amp in a pedal – except that people rave about it for good reason think Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Andy Summers, Nels Cline, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Warren Haynes, Britt Daniel, David Grissom, and John Mayer can’t all be wrong.
11. MXR Block ’70’s Phase 90 – phaser – Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Buehler Buehler
12. Electro Harmonix Deluxe Mistress – flanger – Andy Summers
13. Electro Harmonix Deluxe memory Man – analogue delay – The Edge. need we say more
14. Demeter Tremulator – tremolo pedal – Another David Gilmour staple, Fender amp Tremolo in a box
15. TC Electronics IB Modified Nova – digital delay – digital BMP convenience with LED’s and tap, modded to a more analogue sound
16. Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus – chorus pedal – Michael Landau’s favourite – I set it to a leslie like tone on the left out from the TC Nova and goes to amp A (normally a JC120 or a Twin)
17. TC Electronic Poly Tune – small, cute, polyphonic and accurate
