I love that I get to talk about Dinosaur Jr. again these days. I really need to catch this band on the road to experience the real life feel of J Mascis guitar notes going into my ear holes! I did a pretty fresh pedalboard break down for J about six months ago, but I was excited that Dinosaur Jr. just did another Premier Guitar Rig Rundown.
In classic Mascis style it’s very monotone – but honestly, he seemed more upbeat than other interviews that I’ve seen. It was also cool that he walked through some of the settings, tones and techniques. What I’m extremely blow away is how quiet his set up is. He mentions that the Big Muff is always on, and it’s cranked. I would assume that that there would be serious ‘hiss’. The CAE RS-5 must some how manage this. In my experience, I would definitely need to turn the muff off when not in use.
