Today’s Pedal Line Friday submission is from Duke Gray. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.
Pedal Line Friday – 4/21 – Duke Gray
Hey there!
It’s Duke from Twitter, Progbeawr831
I am most happily taking you up on the opportunity to hopefully be included in your Friday pedal board blog! I have included a couple of pictures for your site of my board and one of me, shameless promotion lol
We start by going in to the little red one, 1. Hotone Chunk Distortion, little box BIG sound and similar to the old Ibanez tube screamers, very analog, tube and 70’s dirty fuzz from ZZ Top to Black Sabbath-ish tones. Ideal for when you don’t use a lot of fuzz.
Then to the right to the 2. Garage Tone Oil Can Phaser, it sounds like the phaser tone David Gilmour used in the 74 versions of Gotta Be Crazy (later Dogs on ’77’s Animals Lp) but has a wide tonal range and smooth blending gives it the perfect match to some of my songs.
Then to right again to the 3. Digitech Synth Wah with Envelope Filter. Widely used and some of the more bizarre tones to find in a pedal makes it a perfect match for my sound and style that enables me to limit no out of this world tone from being heard! The more odd and strange the tone the more I am interested in it! Wouldn’t sell it for the world!
Then up to 4. EHX Ravish Sitar, a unique pedal for unique sounds, from Indian to Chinese to whatever you can pull out of it I love this pedal!
to the left 5. Boss Digital Delay DD-3 used in the setting you see here to flush out the end of the song in a mechanical gong like sound closing off the weirder songs I do live that are harder to end as they do on the album
left again 6. Boss Pitch Shifter/Delay PS-2, another long out of print pedal but does the trick for looping riffs before loop stations were around and creating a mix of odd and familiar tones that compliment what you need with precision.
then down to 7. Aphex, Acoustic Xciter, it bolds and bolsters my sound and allows me to make unique blendings of tone and EQ my sound to the venue I am playing to my liking and gives me a beefier overall sound. Then out to to the amp from there.
