Earthquaker Devices has a video series called “Show Us Your Junk!“, and I’m sort of in love with it. Earlier this month, they released episode #2 which features Dave Catching – who I also sort of love. For those of you not familiar with Dave Catching, he owns Rancho de la Luna recording studio. That studio has put out an incredible amount of work, but how it sets itself apart from other recording studios is the “vibe” and the location – which you can pick up immediately in this episode. Dave Catching also plays guitar in the band, Eagles of Death Metal.
So I really dig this series because it talks about gear, but in the sense of what makes gear special. It doesn’t mean your most valuable gear, or the biggest name, but could be those hidden underappreciated gems. Rancho de la Luna is all about that. It’s not a slick, up tight studio, but a creative outlet with unexpected options.
Of course, the series has to talk about Earthquaker Devices gear, which to me is all about creative outlet as well. Check out the video..

I would love to record in this studio some day. What did you think about the Gorilla amp being used on the Eagles of Death Metal record? I thought that was rad.
I was also excited to see he’s a big fan of the Dispatch Master. That is my absolute favorite Earthquake Devices pedal, and I have to consciously NOT use it on every song, and that is extremely hard for me. It really has a great vibe.
