I was very interested in the recent rig rundown by Premier Guitar on the band Bloc Party. I was super into this band a few years ago, but have fallen off of my radar. The albums I was most familiar with was 2005’s Silent Alarm and 2007’s A Weekend in the City. Both of these albums have great and unique guitar work that really excited me at the time. Russel’s use of delays with quick loop captures and infinite loops as rhythms is quite cool. The only guitarist that comes to mind is Dave Knudson of Minus the Bear with a similar unconventional use of delays.
In this rig rundown, you will see Russell’s crazy board for managing these sounds. Items that stood out for me, was the use of same pedals with preset and the use of routing pedals. Very interesting.
Since those early days they picked up a new bass player – Justin Harris. Justin likes fuzz and pedals, and that’s always exiting to see for bass. I’ve mentioned in the past several times that effects and bass is a tricky combination and you can see some great tips / insight on how he manages ‘dirt’ while maintaining the low end.
I absolutely love Rig Rundowns by Premier Guitar. It’s great to see how the pros get it done. Check out the Bloc Party Rig Rundown below.

Hey — Great boards on every level. Not a Boss fan but I love my Slicer. I’m surprised no ES-8’s or 5’s because a couple of those…. (Tho they sure are pricey) The Joyo’s get it done @ 1/4 the $’s.- I’m also a Premiere mag fan but you can hang w/them. Knowing I’m upping the odds (?) their Christmas stocking rocks — Got a “Wah The Fuzz” & a bunch of other cool stuff for $39. Now just don’t enter-OK
