Our good friends at Celestial Effects let me know that they great pedal, the Cancer Wah the Fuzz was demo’d by Gearmanndude. When I first started this site, I would feature Gearmanndude a lot, and you know it’s been a while, so this is great to show a video by him again.
Now, if you’ve seen me talk about Celestial Effects before, the thing that stands out with this company, is their build quality. It’s sort of nuts, and I love that they think things through on multiple levels. They only use the best components – CTS High Grade Pots, C&K Selector Switches, thick PCBs, etc. The best.
The Cancer Wah the Fuzz is an contains 4 effects that interact nicely with each other, and you usually see guitarists stacking these effects anyway, and these guys put them all together. Basically we have Fixed Wah, Octave Fuzz, Muscle Fuzz and Tube Overdrive.
Fixed Wah is something I’ve been wanting to play with in a band setting. The appeal of locking in a notched mid filter for leads or super meaty rhythm parts is very appealing. They kept it simple too.. just one knob to adjust the filter sweep position. Under the hood there are internal trim pots where you can adjust the ‘Q’, gain, input impedance and mids cut. Very cool.
Octave Fuzz is based on the Octavia design. Again, simple controls – Fuzz and Volume, and the ability to turn on/off the octave.
Muscle Fuzz is based on the Ram’s Head Big Muss design, but improvements to the tone stack were made. Fuzz, Volume, Tone and a tone selection switch are the controls.
Tube Overdrive is a real tube overdrive. The unit ships with a JJ Tesla 12AX7. Controls are Gain, Volume and Edge.
Each effect can be individually turned on/off via True Bypass switch. Its a monster. Check out the demo by gearmanndude:

Hey — After sitting in front of my screen all morning the msg. from Premiere Guitar mag came & after filling out the “Stocking” form I got my $30 pkg. a few days later. For very little effort I got this pedal & a bunch of other cool stuff. I don’t recommend you trying this as it is 1st come 1st serve & I might not get mine. I think this is the unit they demoed. I tried this thru combinations of my guitars & amps & couldn’t get the sounds these guys did. Or as good as anyone else did! I used the supplied wart & Lava cables, my Amer Std Strat w/a GREAT Sigler loaded SSH Pearly Gates Pick Guard.(The ONLY people to get loaded pickguards from AFAIAC’ed) ,MIM ’72 Thinline w/DiMarzio’s, 1977 USA JB Player w/Duncan’s & a bunch of others. For amps I used 50 W Marshall 1/2, Fender USA Blues Deluxe, Ibanez 30 SH w/4×10″ cab. I checked the tube in it & it was fine so I’m guessing it was me(?) . 4 of my favorite effects in 1 box that can be used in any combination should rock. & to be truthful it does in other demo’s — Just not mine. I use 2 amps – each w/a board w/a controller & a 3rd board w/a Moen GEC9 & stereo pedals so I have room to keep it running & since it was almost free…..Thhanks –JB
