Our good friends at Celestial Effects let me know that they great pedal, the Cancer Wah the Fuzz was demo’d by Gearmanndude. When I first started this site, I would feature Gearmanndude a lot, and you know it’s been a while, so this is great to show a video by him again.
Now, if you’ve seen me talk about Celestial Effects before, the thing that stands out with this company, is their build quality. It’s sort of nuts, and I love that they think things through on multiple levels. They only use the best components – CTS High Grade Pots, C&K Selector Switches, thick PCBs, etc. The best.
The Cancer Wah the Fuzz is an contains 4 effects that interact nicely with each other, and you usually see guitarists stacking these effects anyway, and these guys put them all together. Basically we have Fixed Wah, Octave Fuzz, Muscle Fuzz and Tube Overdrive.
Fixed Wah is something I’ve been wanting to play with in a band setting. The appeal of locking in a notched mid filter for leads or super meaty rhythm parts is very appealing. They kept it simple too.. just one knob to adjust the filter sweep position. Under the hood there are internal trim pots where you can adjust the ‘Q’, gain, input impedance and mids cut. Very cool.
Octave Fuzz is based on the Octavia design. Again, simple controls – Fuzz and Volume, and the ability to turn on/off the octave.
Muscle Fuzz is based on the Ram’s Head Big Muss design, but improvements to the tone stack were made. Fuzz, Volume, Tone and a tone selection switch are the controls.
Tube Overdrive is a real tube overdrive. The unit ships with a JJ Tesla 12AX7. Controls are Gain, Volume and Edge.
Each effect can be individually turned on/off via True Bypass switch. Its a monster. Check out the demo by gearmanndude:
