Let me start this post with this statement – I’m giving away this pedal, but I liked it so much, I actually bought one for myself. If this isn’t an indicator of how cool this pedal is, well, I don’t know what else to say.
Pladask Elektrisk is a builder out of Norway getting into the pedal game. The pedal game is hard. How do you stand out? How do you come up with some something innovative? Compelling? There are tons of ingredients that need to considered. Visual aesthetics, genre targeting, tone, complexity / simplicity of functionality, the ability to create, etc. Lots of factors are required to stand out. For me, since I see/play so many pedals, I look for a few things, but primarily, I look for pedals that stimulate my creativity. You know, those pedals that you play and instantly come up with intros, outros, riffs, etc. Pedals that take you away.
As I mentioned in the give away announcement post, my initial expectation was moderate. I love delays, but I feel you can only do ‘so’ much with them, but as soon as plugged into this, I knew it was special. In a nut shell, it’s a gated delay that reacts (threshold) with the input signal to trigger the delay. I absolutely love the possibilities of this. You noise rockers and the players that like the loud/quiet/loud stuff, this will be your jam! There are a few additional features worth talking about as well. The unit as a send/return to run external effects through the unit. The bypass switch also has a long press functionality that will activate the feedback loop to create those awesome oscillations on the fly. Of course you have your standard repeats, delay speed and mix controls as you would expect, but then it has toggles to configure the gate closing, repeat style and bright/tone switch.
