Pedalboard of The Church’s Peter Koppes 2015

Way back in 1988, The Church released the album, Starfish. Under the Milky Way was the hit single from that album and it was a great song. That was my first introduction to the Australian based band. Shortly after this time, a friend of mine let me know that was their first album (as I originally thought), but they in fact had a few (4 albums) previously. And down The Church rabbit hole I went. Their older stuff was incredible, and in 1990 I had the opportunity to see them live, and they blew my mind. That was tour supporting their album – Gold Afternoon Fix.

I was just learning guitar. Just getting into chords, and playing with horrible sounding gear, wondering how my heroes achieve that level of play. When I saw The Church in 1990, I had great seats, and was directly in front of Peter Koppes – and he blew my mind. Hopefully, if all goes as planned this year, I’ll be seeing The Church in Seattle for the first time since 1990!

Yesterday, I saw some great live photos come through The Church’s Facebook page. I ended up on Flickr where I found a couple of great shots of Peter Koppes’ pedalboard of this current 2015 tour and wanted to do a break down. I contacted Tim Grime of Tim Grime Photography and he was incredibly kind and gracious for allowing me to repost these photos. Please check out his other great photos!

Yet another pro who uses mostly Boss pedals. Of course he is from the generation when Boss first came to be popular. My first ever pay for playing music was winning a talent show playing "Under the Milky Way"!

Yeah the boutique stuff is the big trend now, but fact of the matter is the pros pretty much use what gets the job done. Boss pedals are built like tanks. Have you seen the new Boss DD-500 Delay coming out next month – looks like it will blow the Stymon stuff away, and at quite a bit lower price. The big pedal companies have the economies of scale.
