NEW PEDAL ALERT. EarthQuaker Devices unveiled some new pedals that they’ll be showing off during Summer NAMM this year. The new additions are – Tentacle Analog Octave, Dunes Overdrive, Interstellar Orbiter Dual Resonant Filter and Levitation Reverb. I listened to them all, and wanted to focus on the EarthQuaker Devices Dunes Overdrive for this post.
Dunes is the smaller brother to the totally awesome Palisades – which is based on the 808 circuit, but just like everything from EarthQuaker, they put their own voice in the pedal. The EarthQuaker Devices Dunes Overdrive offers some of the same features, but in a much smaller enclosure.
Controls include the typical Tone, Volume and Gain, but where things get interesting is their selectable voice toggle giving you the ability to switch between MOSFET, Silicon and None. The Bandwidth select adjusts the frequency response of the distortion (I thought the particular range they selected for this.. was great). And finally, they have normal/bright toggle. Check out this video:
I love the grainy overdrive tones this pedal is capable of. I preferred the bright mode with bandwidth set and voice set to ‘N’. I would love to give this a try in person though. I’m always impressed with EQD and their ability to put their ‘stamp’ on their pedals. Love it.
Not sure about the price or release date yet, but I’ll be sure to update this post when I find out.
