If you’re after a highly versatile, tone shaping distortion that loves low and high gain amps.. well, you better give the Celestial Effects Aries Beast Distortion close look. This pedal is a monster for a variety of distortion types from crunch to overdrive to medium grit tones. The Aries Beast also has 3 band EQ so you can really dial those mid-range frequencies in. I was really impressed with how it handles high gain amp settings. SIngs and sustains with leads (especially with the EQ control). I definitely give this guy a super thumbs up for this type of pedal, and it’s impressive when a dirt box can stand above the crowd of so many distortions on the market today. Celestial Effects put some thought in this.. and it shows. Well done.
I often like to take a look at pedal guts when I can… and I was super impressed with the attention to detail that was put into the building of this pedal. First off, they use O rings below knobs to seal the shafts on the potentiometers. Very cool and great/smart way to keep dust from getting into the enclosure. They replaced the thin washers that usually come with jacks and pots and used beefy steel washers. It’s a small detail, but I love the effort. Additionally, they use heavy duty locking washers on the jacks. I hate jacks getting loose, and I love that they took that extra step to improve things further. The circuit board is thick with very wide traces. I mean everything they did to assemble this pedal was intended to increase the lifespan and maintain a high level of signal preservation.
