Okay.. I’m on a fuzz hunt and the EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General is making my short list. If you follow this site, you know I have a thing for EarthQuaker Devices. I’ve played a few of their pedals over the years, and I currently have a Dispatch Master on my board, and I love that pedal. EarthQuaker Devices has an ability to make pedals … with character. It’s hard to explain, but it really seems you can tell an EarthQuaker Device pedal. They have a unique twist in the tone that really appeals to players. For me, they really do an outstanding job of stimulating creativity. When I play EarthQuaker, I’m almost instantly coming up with riffs, drones and noise out of the guitar. Ideas just flow.
The EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General is based on the old Ace Tone Fuzz Master FM-2 which was an octave fuzz close to the Super Fuzz. The general has a 3 position ‘voice’ toggle which selects between germanium, silicon and ‘Open’ which is a pure transistor drive. This provides some clean octave-up tones similar to a ring modulator. Additionally, there are the standard ‘Tone’, ‘Fuzz’ and ‘Level’ controls.
There are some unique tones while dialing in the Tone and Fuzz options. I love to hear the ring modulation weirdness.. or you can get super wooley as well. Check out this video by EarthQuakerDevices.
Also, you need to check out this great video Juan and Nick from PedalsAndEffects. This illustrates some of the more extreme settings you can get with the EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General!
The EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General will be available for purchase (expected) on 2/27/2015. You can purchase via Amazon.com right now for $175 and this guy ships for FREE!
