Alchemy Audio Dead Bat

Alchemy Audio Dead BatA while back, I had an opportunity to send a few questions to Johnny Balmer of Alchemy Audio. Alchemy Audio has a great product called the Dead Bat which is also known as a sag circuit. Basically, a sag circuit, simulates a dying battery by shaving off some of the output volts. Some people might ask.. why would I want that? Well simply, some people on their quest for ultimate tone, have identified that certain pedals sound best right before the pedal’s battery dies. A common pedal for this.. is the TS9 Tubescreamer. Also, fuzz pedals react with great results. The Heavy Electronics Grind Fuzz has a sag circuit/control built in for example. Usually, when the battery dies, you only have a small window before the battery goes completely dead. Probably the battery was sitting at 7-8 volts instead of 9.

Well if you wanted this voltage all the time, this is where the Dead Bat comes in. It takes an input voltage from a power supply (like Voodoo Lab or One Spot, etc), then you would connect the output to the input power on the pedal. One big knob allows you to dial in the sweet spot. All the way cranked is full voltage.

Johnny sent me an email that Gearmanndude just did a demo… check it out!

Check out Alchemy Audio to purchase. Also, check out some cool modified pedals as well!

Thanks for the feature! I’ve also had success fitting the Dead Bat â„¢ circuit inside a Big Muff and Rat pedal. You can see pictures in the ‘Gallery’ section of my web site (www.alchemy-audio.com)
