This morning I wanted to talk about a cool pedal that you might be interested in. I stumbled across this from the direction of the artist is was primarily created for. That musician is J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., which I’m a big fan of. I guess the story is that he came to ZVex and requested two Box of Rock pedals in one enclosure. They did this, but wanted to make a few changes before adding it to ZVex’s line. With the ZVex Double Rock you can change the sub-frequencies similar to the Distortron and you can convert either channel into a Super Hard-On. So.. as you can see, lots of potential here.
I found this great video with one of my favorite demo artists.. Just Nick. Nick does a great job showing all the features of this pedal.
Controls on the ZVex Double Rock:
Drive: Sets the amount of distortion in Distortron mode and sets the amount of boost in the Super Hard-On mode
Tone: Adjust for treble content. Starts around 2:00. This knob only functions in Distortron mode.
Volume: Adjusts for output volume level
Dis / Boost Switch: Changes the circuit from a Distortron to Super Hard-On
Subs Switch: 2-1-3 Lets you choose the full Box of Rock sub amount (3) or two different lower levels of subs depending on your amp’s needs. Only functions in Distortron mode.
This pedal is on the pricey side.. but you have to think, it’s basically 4 pedals in one enclosure. You get 2 Super Hard Ons and 2 Distortrons. You can pick one up the ZVex Double Rock for yourself for $369 at Amazon.com
