VFE Pedals Alpha Dog Distortion – Kickstarter

VFE Pedals Alpha Dog Distortion - KickstarterPeter over at VFE Pedals (out of Washington) let me know about an interesting Kickstarter campaign he has going right now. I do get a few emails about Kickstarter projects relating to pedals quite often. I personally, think this is a fantastic way to work on new designs with pre-sales, etc. This was has a slight twist, that I thought was quite interesting. The twist is a way that you can help support American manufacturing.

Obviously VFE Pedals are built here in the United States with parts provided by American distributors, but he wanted to go a little further. Normally, in pedals, the potentiometers (also known as pots) are used for adjusting values on the pedal. I would say the industry standard for pots are the ‘alpha’ pots. People do not realize that Alpha pots are actually manufactured in Taiwan (Alpha Taiwan). VFE Pedals is looking to support American manufacturing further by purchasing their pots from Alpha Potentiometers located in California. These pots are more individually more expensive that the standard Alpha Taiwan pots, and VFE will need to put in larger orders to get the individual unit price to be comparable to the Taiwan counterparts.

This is what the Kickstarter Campaign is all about – to provide an initial order of custom made US pots that will go in to improve the usability of the VFE Pedals Alpha Dog Distortion and to further support American manufacturing. This campaign is only for $2000, and should easily achieve its goal. For more information about the Kickstarter campaign, please click here.
