Taylor Barefoot Rig Rundown

Over the years, I’ve posted several Taylor Barefoot pedal demos. They (Taylor Barefoot on guitar and David Fischer on camera) definitely do an excellent job demo’ing pedals, especially those super boutique pedals that we all want, and can’t afford. They also do an excellent jobs with comparisons. One of the best video demos out there was the Ultimate Overdrive Pedal Shootout video. Taylor played 35 great overdrives and by doing so, you could really get an appreciation of the differences, etc. It was very useful for me in particular.

Today, I came across a rig rundown video they did on Taylor’s pedal line, amp and assortment of guitars. I walked away from this video with a few points. Here at EffectsBay, the most common email I get is usually related to pedal order on the board. In some circles pedal order is a HOT topic, and I definitely understand that. But, often I’ll tell guitarists, start with the traditional routing, but end up with what sounds right. At the end of the day, that’s what matters, and does not have to follow any particular rules.

During the video, it was interesting to see where Taylor had a few pedals in the line, and he mentioned that it sounded best in those locations. I was glad to hear/see that. In the beginning of the video he talked about the importance of cables within the line and demonstrated bypassed signal to the amp as well as plugging directly into the amp. I think this is super important to find out what the pedals are doing to your tone bypassed. It was also interesting to see that he had a hotter signal going through the pedal board bypassed, which involved buffers (ie: Klon Centaur) which if it doesn’t impact your tone is a good to great thing! If you’re curious about buffers, check this post out – “Visual Sound (buffered bypass) and Route 808”

Okay, let’s get with the video by Tibbon. Grab your coffee or beer beverage.. it’s 26 minutes long:

Here is a break down of pedals mentioned in the video. Great stuff!

I definitely went to amazon and added like four of these pedals to my wishlist that I hadn’t heard used like that before.
