A few weeks ago I received an email from Mad Professor asking to see if we’d be interested in talking the Mad Professor Golden Cello out for a test drive. This is a new release, which is only exclusively available through Musician’s Friend and Guitar Center. There has been some excitement regarding this pedal, and we were no exception.
The Mad Professor Golden Cello is a great sounding overdrive, but what makes it special, is there a delay included with this pedal. Overdrive/Delay combo? We’re talking some cool lead tones and atmospheric vibe right out of the box!
The Mad Professor Golden Cello has the standard single enclosure size. Has the following four controls: Delay, Drive, Volume, Tone. Delay only controls the amount of delay added to the overdriven signal. You cannot control speed, feedback, etc.
For this demo, we have Jimmy Rolle playing is American Standard Fender Stratocaster into a Germino Lead55 Head through a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. There is nothing between the guitar and the amp except for the Mad Professor Golden Cello. Audio was recorded with a Fathead Ribbon Mic and a Shure SM7B, both close mic’d.

You can listen to the high quality MP3 clips via SoundCloud
As you can see/hear, this is a great pedal. Having an overdrive/delay in a small enclosure is great for keeping the pedal board tight and could bring another option for leads, etc. You can pick up the Mad Professor Golden Cello for $199.99 at Musician’s Friend or Guitar Center. Again, this pedal is only exclusively available at these stores.
