First off, I wanted to say “Happy Father’s Day” to all the dads out there. I’m a father to two great kids, so this is a very special day for me.
Back in January we had a chance to demo HEPTODE’s Heavy Tone Overdrive, which received some great response and also resulted in a great give away. Today, I’m happy to present you the demo of the HEPTODE Deep Crunch. Jean-Luc, owner/operator of HEPTODE, who we interviewed a while back, is making some great pedals out of France, such as the Deep Crunch and is worth checking out!
The Deep Crunch is inspired by the Soldano SLO-100 crunch channel, which uses analog circuitry to simulate that warm tubey goodness. There are 6 basic controls on the unit. Gain, Level (which controls the overall output level), Bass, Mid and Treble controls. There is also a CabSim toggle which activates the Cabinet Simulator if you were plugging this direct into a computer or mixing console. For the purpose of this demo we left the CabSim setting to ‘off’.
For this demo, we have Jimmy Rolle taking the Deep Crunch out for a drive. He’s using his Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Elegant into a Germino Lead55 Head through a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. There is nothing between the guitar and the amp except for the HEPTODE Deep Crunch. Audio was recorded with a Fathead Ribbon Mic and a Shure SM57, both close mic’d.

Heptode recently endorsed Janet Robin – she is playing the Deep Crunch. Also, Heptode just signed an agreement with European Musical Imports (EMI) making them the exclusive distributor of HEPTODE products in the USA.
