Best Volume Pedal Poll

Best Volume Pedal PollSo I’m on the hunt for a volume pedal. Been asking a few questions, been getting a few answers. I definitely have a short list of contenders, so I thought it might be cool to put a poll together to see what all of you recommend for the ‘best’ volume pedal. Now, let’s define ‘best’. I’m not necessarily looking for the most popular volume pedal, but the best. For a volume pedal to be ‘best’ it will need to meet some criteria – #1 Needs to have low to no impact on the guitar tone. #2 It needs to have a nice smooth taper #3 Needs to hold up over time. So here is the poll, if you know of a volume pedal that is not in the poll and should be, please comment below or send me an email! Thanks!

I have a Morley Volume/Wah, which I bought for the volume part (have never used the wah, since I don’t like its shaping and it boosts the volume of the signal way too much).

I can’t tell that it introduces any color into the signal. I’ve had it for something like 7 or 8 years and it’s been bullet-proof and reliable. I recently had to make a minor fix: I tightened up the pivot screws so it would stay parked all the way up.

My only complaint about it is that it’s BIG. It takes up a lot of space on the pedal board, much more than it deserves, really. I’ve actually thought about getting a different one just to reclaim that space on the board.

You bring up a good point. I think small footprint is important on the volume pedals. I’m slightly surprised by how big some of the volume pedals are.

I think the size may help out some with letting the foot gradually control volume.

I have a morely mini volume and the ONLY good thing I can say about it is that it’s small. It’s practically useless anywhere other than 0% and 100. Also it is pretty touchy so you have to be disciplined when using it. I’m glad it was cheap.

I voted for the Ernie Ball 6180 Jr. Pedal. It’s small, it’s affordable, and it always works. The Visual Volume pedal is pretty cool (who doesn’t like leds?), but why spend twice the money?

Yes footprint! It’s important consideration for me. That’s why I love the BOSS FV-50H Nice and smooth, stereo if you need it, and nice and compact without being too small.

You’ve left out the one I have, which I absolutely adore: The George Dennis. It’s optical, has a great buffer, really smooth taper and a small (but wide!) footprint. I’ve been using it for three years with no trouble and I highly recommended, specially if you live in the EU, because they’re ridiculously cheap.

The Ernie Ball pedals are without doubt the best I’ve ever used. Solid, smooth, quiet, stay in place (both volume setting and physically on stage!). I’ve found physical weight important for volume pedal usability – avoid lightweight plastic ones!!
