Pedal Line Friday – 4/8 – Noah Mackey

Today’s pedal line is from Noah Mackey. If you have a pedal line (doesn’t have to be in a board) for your rig, please email me a photo, bio, description of pedals and routing to pedalline@nulleffectsbay.com. Every Friday I’ll showcase a pedal line submission. Make sure you include any links to your band or music page.

Pedal Line Friday - 4/8 - Noah MackeyIt goes:

Soulsonic FX Femto Buffer > Malekko Tremolo > Malekko Phaser > Malekko 616 Analog Delay > Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Digital Delay > Heavy Electronics Ascend Booster > NOC3 Effects Pure Drive Overdrive > TC Electronic Polytune

I use the trem for surfy type sounds. It doesn’t get switched on too often, but it’s lots of fun. I use the Phaser for spicing up simpler rhythm parts during bridges, and also for reggae parts and solos. This is pretty much a must-have for me. The 616 is for more rock oriented leads and it also sounds great for surf/rockabilly stuff.

The SMMw/H is a beast. It has so many sounds. Live, I just use it for standard, tap tempo echo. Sounds great for reggae. At home, when I’m just playin around, it’s a blast. The looper is awesome for practicing lead parts. Just record the rhythm and solo til your eyes fall out, then piece together your more clever runs. It can also make some downright scary ambient type sounds, just a box of fun this thing is. I love it.

The Ascend is just for boosting gain for solos/lead parts. Has a slightly dirty quality if you dial it up enough, sounds great with my amp. The Pure Drive is a very versatile, transparent overdrive. I keep it set for an icy blues tone that works well with neck pickups for dirty surf tones and more rockabilly type stuff. I tune with the Polytune. I also prefer my tuner at the end of the chain, so as to mute any hiss that’s being made to echo and wiggle by the phase, trem, or delay. All this stuff is powered by a BBE Supa Charger power supply.

Before the board comes a Gibson Les Paul Studio Mahogany from 2006. It’s got a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge and a Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck. The amp is a Mesa Boogie Stiletto Deuce II. Cab is a Marshall 1936 2×12 with Celestion 75s.

Well, that’s my submission. My band is called The Involuntarys (www.theinvoluntarys.com) We are from Indianapolis and play punk rock.
