I’m a huge fan of MAKE magazine. If you’re into geeky things.. and building fun projects.. you should definitely check it out or subscribe. I think it’s the best magazine on the planet by far.
On their website, I saw a great video on “Dead Drops”. The concept is creating anonymous peer to peer file sharing.. urban style. This is done by embedding USB flash drives into the environment. People can upload/download files from the USB flash drive when found. Locations could be a pole, wall, bench, etc. I thought it was a cool concept.
This is somewhat controversial since it is a form of vandalism if you’re adding these in places without permission, but the idea sounds quite cool. It gets me thinking about a way for bands to spread their music in a region. Imagine a band flyer talking about a upcoming show.. with a giant arrow point down to the dead drop. You’d think curiosity might grab people’s attention to what is in there… who knows.
Regardless, thought I would share this video.
