Last week I was reading about this, and wanted to make a post about this.. but forgot. But I just remembered. This is a pretty amazing invention in the world of guitar. EverTune is a new bridge tuning system that keeps your guitar in tune. In a nut shell, it uses isolated springs to maintain a consistent tension on each of your springs. It works with bends as well as alternative tunings. The tuning peg basically tightens the string to the base string tension, then you set the tune at the bridge. I heard about this.. but was not a believer. It definitely seems neat. Check out this video of Shim from Sick Puppies.
Here is what EverTune has to say about it:
EverTune is based on simple mechanical principles. The EverTune bridge connects your guitar strings to an adaptive spring-tensioner inside the guitar body.
As each string or tuner posts loosens, the springs compensate, maintaining exactly the tension you set the first time you tuned the guitar, no matter how hard or how often you play.
You’ll never again have to re-tune your guitar…unless you want to! Prefer alternative tunings? Easy! Tune or re-string your EverTune just like a regular guitar. Want to bend your notes? You can do that too! With EverTune, you are in control!
Audiophiles and studio producers will notice improved tone quality and consistency on EverTuned guitars, which can dramatically simplify recording and post-production!
Below is a guitar tech from Sick Puppies.. sounds like he’ll be shopping for a new job soon…
There are some issues with this.. in my opinion. Mainly, this involves routing out you guitar body to fit this system. I would personally be a little weary about shipping my #1 guitar to get this done, but that’s just me. Since it’s a routing job, you can’t undo it if you don’t like something about it, so be sure you really want it before spending the dough to get this done. I have no idea what they charge for their system. Looks like their still finalizing partnerships, so pricing should be available soon.

Wow – looks like all the convinience of a Floyd Rose. Remember how we all stopped using those? Has to be tuned USING A SPECIAL HEX KEY? and has to be specifically set up so you can bend? Not to mention body cavity routing. This amazing new technology has fail written all over it.

man, i really want to like this, however, when you consider tone, so much of it is the bridge’s responsibilty, ie the difference between a tele with the traditional bridge vs a tele with a bigsby–big difference. the other, even bigger deal breaker is how this affects string bending. from the discussion on their site, it basically sounds like you have to do unnatural acts to bend the strings to pitch with this bridge.

an engineering feat–you betcha. the next big thing? not yet. the string-bending issue is too great a problem.
